Barry the kobold, polypaint technique

As Barry the kobold would be finalised as a 2D composit of 3D renders, I know that there would need to be a colour base to build upon. In the past I've only kept polypainting to a very basic level in order to express colour and not necessarily texture. After some research I returned a YouTube channel called MLW Creative. This was the channel that I first researched when looking at 2D composits. It's here that I've also found the polypaint tutorial that looks at using brushes in such a way that creates a natural looking colour and complexion of skin. As natural as can be when it comes to suspension of disbelief anyway as MLW Creative seems to do a lot of fantasy type creatures. Since I'm creating a fantasy creature, there is some creative freedom in what is considered natural looking.

In tutorial MLW Creative focuses heavily on observation of colour variation and using different types of masks with polypaint. Masking by cavity and adjusting the associated parameter seem to be of most importance as creating skin textures with variation would be pointless if there is no variation in the Polypaint.
